Who knew?
I have a friend who asked me if I would run a leg of a race for her. For her birthday, she wanted to race in a half-ironman, but her knees are not good for running. She was planning on swimming and biking and was looking for a friend to do the run portion on her behalf. Unfortunately, the time she asked me to do it is a week before the marathon and that is when I am supposed to be tapering and taking it easy to get ready for the 26.2 on 6/21.
So, I had to politely decline and told her to ask me another time. :)
As I thought about it, I knew that if I had been able to do it for her that I would have felt obligated to run my little heart out because she was asking me to run this for her in her place. I would have gone as fast as I could and taken it seriously so that she could have a good overall time.
As I thought about that, I reflected that this is the same mentality for the marathon I'll be running in your honor. I feel the same way- I want to run the best race I've ever run because this is FOR YOU. I'm not trying to qualify for anything this time around, but I do want to try to run a little bit better than I've done before. Knowing what you have gone through over the last few months is absolutely inspiring, and quite frankly, it's miraculous.
I have a feeling that will certainly push me hard and fast to the finish line.
so- happy national running day to you!
as I've told you before, you all are tied up in my shoelaces everyday.
