Better Together

This morning, I ran 9 1/2 miles with one of my best friends, Elizabeth. We usually run Thursday or Friday mornings together, and it seems that we solve most of the world's problems as we pound the pavement at 6:30 a.m.  I've mentioned before that she is faster than I am, but she never makes me feel like she is doing me a favor to go running with me. She pushes me without it ever being something where I feel discouraged.  Perhaps unbeknownst to her, she is the best coach I've ever had as she gives me the best running tips, physical therapy advice, pacing strategies, nutrition guidelines, etc.   Let's not forget the fact that she also is a one-of-a-kind coach/friend who ran a marathon alongside me to help me set a PR last fall.

I am just faster when I go with her, and the thing is that I don't feel like I am really doing a hard core workout because we are talking the whole time and I love being with her.

Here are the time splits from this morning:

The times above may not mean a whole lot, but suffice it to say that the warm up is the first mile and the cool down is the last mile and a half. The miles from 2-8 were when we were picking up the pace a bit.  I would not have had these splits if I had done this workout on my own.
This is simply proof that I am much more confident and stronger with her by my side.

I mentioned this theme before in my post in March about Two are Better than One, but some things bear repeating.  I kept thinking about you two this morning about how you two are better together on the road ahead.  May you sit with that thought today, give thanks and give each other a high five that God has given y'all to one another.

And here's the song that was running through my head thinking of you two today:

Better Together- Jack Johnson
There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs
With sepia-toned loving
Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together

Mmm, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, we'll look at the stars when we're together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that they'll be gone
When the morning light sings
And brings new things
For tomorrow night you see
That they'll be gone too
Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I'd be under the impression
I was somewhere in between
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be
We'll sit beneath the mango tree now

Yeah, it's always better when we're together
Mmm, we're somewhere in between together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

Mmm, mmm, mmm

I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together.
